PICTO Happenings

Our world was rocked last Saturday when, sadly, our dad passed away. Adam and I have had a hard time concentrating on work, so we took a week's hiatus from the blog. We're sorry for not posting sooner, but we're back this week, and it will be a tribute week to our dad here.

He read the blog every single day and believed strongly in having a post for every day of the week. He helped out with ideas, told us when he truly loved a post, and let us know when he thought something was wrong or needed to be spiced up a bit.

Throughout this week, we're going to share some of our favorite memories with him as we try to navigate one of the hardest weeks of our lives.

Picto Happenings was, I think, his favorite blog. I believe he loved that it wasn't just a way to give our customers a look ahead at what shows we were doing — it also gave him an idea of what his week was going to look like. Because if we were doing an IG show with anyone, Andy T. Fish was going to be watching. He truly was our greatest supporter.

So, to start Andy Fish Tribute Week, we of course need to have a Picto Happenings.

Andrew T. Fish, 60, of Worcester, Massachusetts, passed away on September 5, 2026, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica Fish; his sons, Matthew Fish and his wife, Krystine, Joe Fish and his wife, Katherine, and Adam Fish and his partner, Caitlin; his mother, Billee LaPrade; his sister, Darlene Dow and her husband, Dennis; and his brother, Al LaPrade and his wife, Tomoko, of Nagoya, Japan.

Born December 27, 1965, Andy was a lifelong artist, illustrator, educator, collector, and storyteller. His career spanned comics, graphic novels, illustration, fine art, and education. He worked at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, freelanced for Worcester Magazine, and worked with publishers including Marvel, Archie, and Dark Horse Comics. As an educator, Andy inspired generations of artists through the Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Emerson College, and arts organizations throughout the region. He also gave his time volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club.

Andy was endlessly creative, fiercely independent, deeply curious, and possessed a sense of humor entirely his own. He loved comics, classic films, monsters, art, history, collecting, and a good conversation. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the things he loved and could turn nearly any subject into a story worth hearing.

Above all, Andy believed deeply in making things, working hard, and encouraging others to do the same.

He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, students, fellow artists, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Family and friends will gather to honor Andy's memory at Calling Hours from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 15th at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 16 at St. George Catholic Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. At the request of the family, interment will be private. Arrangements are in the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to The Boys & Girls Club of Worcester (www.bgcworcester.org), or The Hero Initiative (www.heroinitiative.org). (In addition, a Worcester Art Museum scholarship will be established in Andy's honor in the future.)
