HAPPY BATVERISY

Happy Batversary! 🦇

Happy Batversary to you and your loved ones!
It’s officially been 60 years since Adam West and Burt Ward burst into our living rooms as the Dynamic Duo — and what a ride it’s been.

The Batman TV series gave us a format we’ll never forget: two episodes a week, with the first always ending on a cliffhanger. Then came the unmistakable voice of William Dozier, urging us to tune in the very next night to see if Batman and Robin could escape their latest impending doom…

Same Bat-Time. Same Bat-Channel.

Adam West & Burt Ward: The Perfect Duo

Adam West (born William West Anderson) had already appeared in 60+ roles before landing the cape and cowl. He had the look, the voice, and the perfect balance to play both Batman and Bruce Wayne.

Paired with Burt Ward, the two were absolutely perfect at bringing Batman from the comic pages to the screen. Yes, the show was campy — but that was exactly the point. This was Batman of the era: no longer gun-wielding and lurking in the shadows, but battling colorful villains, wild schemes, and even crazy aliens. And they nailed it.

A Supporting Cast for the Ages

As great as Adam and Burt were, the supporting cast and villains truly made the show legendary.

  • Alan Napier remains, to this day, the greatest on-screen Alfred. Witty, loyal, confident — and quietly an integral part of the team.

  • Neil Hamilton and Stafford Repp were a fantastic duo as Commissioner Gordon and Chief O’Hara. Always a little too quick to call Batman and Robin… but honestly, wouldn’t you do the same?

The Greatest Rogues Gallery Ever Assembled

And then there are the villains — arguably the greatest rogues gallery ever put on screen.

The very first episode introduced us to Frank Gorshin as The Riddler, and wow — perfection. High energy without ever crossing into annoyance, which is a tough line to walk. And that was just the beginning.

The ’66 series gave us:

  • The best Alfred

  • The best Joker

  • The best Penguin

  • And an unforgettable Catwoman

Cesar Romero was a perfect Joker — mustache and all — not the psychopath we know today, but a wonderfully unhinged clown prince.
Burgess Meredith’s Penguin might be the best of them all.
And let’s not forget villains created just for the show, like the unforgettable Victor Buono as King Tut.

A True Classic

However you choose to celebrate today, throw on an episode and soak in the Batman of the times — a truly classic show.

From West to Ward, Napier to Hamilton, Romero to Meredith to Buono — we’ll never see anything like it again. From BAM! to POW!, it was pure magic.

Thank you, and Happy Batversary.
We’ll see everyone tomorrow…

Same Bat-Time. Same Bat-Channel. 🦇📺
