MOVIE REVIEW JUDGE Dredd (1995)
Next up in our look back at 90s comic book movies: Judge Dredd, the 1995 action-packed sci-fi flick starring Sylvester Stallone. Based on the British comic 2000 AD, this movie had all the ingredients for something great — a wild futuristic setting, a COOL main character, and tons of potential. But what we got is a bit more complicated. It's messy, loud, and kind of dumb... but also weirdly fun if you’re in the right mood.
Story – 6.2/10 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖
Set in a dystopian future where "Judges" act as judge, jury, and executioner, the story follows Judge Dredd (Stallone) — the most feared lawman in Mega-City One. When he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit, Dredd has to clear his name, uncover a conspiracy, and of course, deliver some justice.
The plot is a bit all over the place. It starts strong with a cool setup, but it gets bogged down with too many side characters.
Monsters/Villains – 6.2/10 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖
The main villain, Rico (Armand Assante), is basically the evil twin version of Dredd — same training, but full-blown chaos. Assante goES full cartoon villain, WHICH WORKS.
There’s also a killer cyborg, lots of mutant outlaws, and a very cool setting filled with crime, corruption, and violence.
Actors/Characters – 6.4/10 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖
Sylvester Stallone plays Dredd with his usual gruff energy, but he spends way too much time without the helmet — IN THE COMICS DREDD NEVER TAKES OFF HIS HELMET.
Overall – 6.3/10 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖
Judge Dredd (1995) is kind of a mess, but it’s also kind of awesome if you’re into flashy, over-the-top sci-fi. ITS A SILLY action movie with cool sets, weird costumes, and Stallone shouting “I AM THE LAW!” — it’s hard not to have some fun with it.
