MAJOR PICTO SPOTLIGHT: MAD #1
Long before MAD Magazine introduced its iconic mascot Alfred E. Neuman, there was MAD Comics—the original satire series that started it all. Running for 23 groundbreaking issues, MAD Comics set the stage for a bold new kind of humor in the comic world before transitioning into MAD Magazine, which would go on to publish over 550 issues.
MAD was one of the very first parody comics—and still remains one of the best. It brilliantly skewered classic superheroes, comic strip characters, movies, and television shows. It wasn’t just funny; it was revolutionary. MAD brought a level of satire and subversion that comic readers had never seen before.
This particular issue features a fantastic cover by Harvey Kurtzman and interior art by the legendary trio: Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Davis, and Wally Wood. It’s a prime example of MAD’s golden age—irreverent, clever, and artistically top-tier.
