MOUNT RUSHMORE: CARTOON DOGS
It's been a bit since we did a Mount Rushmore, so let's have another go at it. If you're not familiar with our Mount Rushmore format, I'll make it short: it's simply a top 4 list of whatever we want. It's much more fun than a top 5 list, and I get to imagine Snoopy as Lincoln — so without further ado, to the list.
#1 — Snoopy
At the top of our Mount Rushmore sits the one and only Snoopy. Whether you love him as Joe Cool, the Flying Ace, or simply as Charlie Brown's best pal, Snoopy takes the top of the cake no matter what kind of fan you are. There is no debate here. The top spot was never in question.
#2 — Scooby-Doo
Next up we have everyone's favorite crime solver, alongside his meddling FRIENDS. We are of course speaking of Scooby-Doo. Scooby is arguably the biggest Hanna-Barbera character ever created and sits at the top of any great cartoon dog conversation. From the Mystery Machine to Scooby Snacks, this Great Dane has earned his spot on the mountain.
#3 — Courage the Cowardly Dog
Now it starts to get a little harder. For our third spot we went with one of our personal favorites — Courage the Cowardly Dog. Even though it was a short run, Courage was a fantastic cartoon that had our hero constantly battling supernatural beings well above his pay grade. He probably should go to the dentist, but Courage is absolutely one of the greats as far as we're concerned.
#4 — Krypto the Super-Dog
Finally, we close out the Mount Rushmore with maybe the greatest superhero pet of all time — the one who really started it all for super pets everywhere: Krypto the Super-Dog. Goofy as can be, but let's be honest — have you ever hung out with a dog? It's like hanging out with your fun uncle, except that uncle doesn't talk, which frankly makes it even better. Krypto first starred in Adventure Comics #210 and kicked off the entire super pets legacy. All the great super pets that followed owe him a debt.
