MOVIE REVIEW: SPIDER-MAN (2002)
TODAY WE ARE STICKIGN WITH THE SUPERHERO THEME & REVIEWING SPIDER-MAN (2002) From sam Saimi
The Story β 6.5 π€π€π€π€π€π€
The story is pretty basic, but it doesn't try to do too much. Itβs a typical origin story, starting with how Peter gets his powers and, of course, includes the classic Uncle Ben line:
βWith great power comes great responsibility.β
His suit still doesnβt make a lot of senseβhe goes from wearing his footie PJs in a wrestling match to suddenly having this slick, professional costume. But hey, we can overlook that!
The Villain β 7.7 π€π€π€π€π€π€π€
Willem Dafoe plays Norman Osborn, a.k.a. the Green Goblin. Heβs rich, smart, and slowly goes insane after a failed experiment. His costume looks a little silly now, but Dafoeβs performance is greatβcreepy, intense, and fun to watch. He really throws himself into the role.
Actors/Characters β 7.2 π€π€π€π€π€π€π€
Tobey Maguire does a good job as Peter Parker. Heβs awkward, kind, and makes you feel for the character. Kirsten Dunst is solid as Mary Jane, and the supporting cast does their job.
But the standout is J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jamesonβhe steals every single scene. He is absolutely perfect as JJ.
Overall β 6.9 π€π€π€π€π€π€
This is a fun movie with a few goofy moments, but the story is solid. It feels like the first time a superhero movie became a true blockbuster successβand it helped pave the way for the MCU. It's a bit dated, but still a good time.
