SPIDER-MAN 2
AFTER WATCHING THE FIRST SPIDER-MAN I WAS INSPIRED TO WATCH THE EVEN MORE SUPERIOR SPIDER-man 2, and if you are sick of super hero movies check out next week where we are deep diving back in HORROR!
The Story β 7.8/10 π€π€π€π€π€π€π€
This time around, the story goes deeper. Peter is struggling to balance being Spider-Man with having a normal life. Heβs broke, tired, missing classes, and MJβs moving on. It really leans into the βsuperhero burnoutβ idea, which works well.
The emotional moments hit harder than in the first movie, and the action is spaced out with just enough heart and drama. It still gets a little cheesy in parts, but overall, itβs stronger than the first one story-wise.
The Villain β 8.2/10 π€π€π€π€π€π€π€
Doc Ock (played by Alfred Molina) is a huge step up. He starts as a good guy, a brilliant scientist with big dreams, but after a lab accident and some killer robot arms take over, he turns into a tragic villain.
Heβs scary but also sympathetic, which makes him way more interesting. Plus, his fight scenes with Spidey (especially the train scene) are top-tier.
Actors/Characters β 7.9/10 π€π€π€π€π€π€π€
Tobey Maguire brings more depth this time. You can feel Peterβs stress and sadness, and he handles the more serious tone pretty well. Kirsten Dunst has more to do as MJ, and her scenes with Peter feel more real this time.
And of courseβJ.K. Simmons is STILL perfect as J. Jonah Jameson. Every time he shows up, itβs gold.
Alfred Molina also deserves credit for making Doc Ock both threatening and likable. Great casting all around.
Overall β 8.2/10 π€π€π€π€π€π€π€
Spider-Man 2 improves on the first movie in almost every way. The story is more emotional, the villain is better, and the action is awesome (especially that train sceneβseriously, it's iconic).
Itβs one of the best superhero sequels ever and really helped prove that comic book movies could be more than just funβthey could be good movies, too.
