Captain Canuck #1 - VF/NM 9.0

$90.00

Comely Comix · Captain Canuck #1 · July 1975

Grade: VF/NM 9.0

Cover by Richard Comely.

This is where Captain Canuck begins. Richard Comely introduced Tom Evans — RCMP officer, augmented by extraterrestrial contact, operating as Captain Canuck in a near-future Canada that had become the most powerful nation on Earth. That premise alone set it apart from anything Marvel or DC was doing in 1975. Comely wrote and drew the book himself, self-publishing through his own Comely Comix imprint out of Calgary — a legitimately independent superhero launch at a time when that kind of operation almost never got off the ground, let alone built a fanbase.

The Collector's Edition printing distinguishes this copy from the standard newsstand run — worth confirming against your own copy if you're tracking print variants in the Captain Canuck run.

First issue and first appearance of Captain Canuck — the anchor key of the entire Comely Comix run and the foundational issue for any serious Bronze Age Canadian comics collection. Demand has held steady as the character's cultural profile has grown.

Condition VF/NM 9.0 — . This Collector's Edition copy presents with a double cover confirmed by our human grader — a manufacturing anomaly that typically shields the interior cover and has no negative impact on structural integrity. Noting: double cover.

We use what the scientists are calling artificial intelligence to research and write our descriptions — it gives us more time to add books to our website and provide you with a wider array of inventory. We think Klaatu would approve. Details are verified but the robot does slip up. We're not infallible. Every book is graded by a human collector who has actually held it.
