Marvel Comics Group · The Amazing Spider-Man #190 · March 1979 · $0.40 · 36 pages
Grade: VF 8.0
Cover by Keith Pollard and Al Milgrom.
“Mayhem is the Man-Wolf!” — written by Marv Wolfman, penciled by Keith Pollard. Spider-Man goes up against Man-Wolf, the transformed John Jameson, son of J. Jonah. Jameson's lycanthropic alter ego had been a recurring presence in Marvel's Bronze Age books — from his own short-lived series in Creatures on the Loose to appearances throughout the Spider-Man titles — and this issue puts him back in Peter Parker's orbit for another round. Pollard's linework is clean and dependable, well-suited to the kinetic back-and-forth of a superhero brawl.
Issue #190 falls in the back stretch of Marv Wolfman's run on the title — he'd depart not long after, with Roger Stern eventually taking over and pushing the book into some of its most celebrated Bronze Age territory. For ASM run builders, this is a necessary stop in that transitional corridor.
Condition VF 8.0 — .
We use what the scientists are calling artificial intelligence to research and write our descriptions — it gives us more time to add books to our website and provide you with a wider array of inventory. We think Klaatu would approve. Details are verified but the robot does slip up. We're not infallible. Every book is graded by a human collector who has actually held it.
